Canvassing by direct mail, telephone or in person can be an effective tool in prospecting for leads.
Canvassing By Mail
In order to effectively canvass for prospects, you typically need to decide not only who to mail, but also who not to mail.
By bringing in only your top prospecting sources on the front end and then applying several suppression techniques on
individual names, you are able to greatly increase the performance of your prospects.
The end result is that your prospecting metrics will naturally increase and you reducing your overall costs by
suppressing the non-performing names, a win win situation. Direct Mail Canvassing
Canvassing By Telephone
Canvassing by phone is a viable alternative to other forms, such as door to door or canvassing by mail. It is relatively inexpensive (compared to door to door) and has the advantage of immediate response.
Some companies use computers to call, present a short recorded message and ask if a salesman can call back later.
However, some 70 percent of people who receive such calls dislike being called by a computer and will not corporate;
many hang up the moment they realize WHAT they are "talking to."
Learn To Canvass On The Phone
Canvassing In Person
This technique is best used
when you are finished with a sales call and you are in an office building with time
before your next scheduled appointment.
Walk into other offices which you think can use what you are selling and introduce
yourself. You might get an opportunity to speak with a prospect. At least, you can find
out who the prospect is, leave your business card and indicate that you will be following
up with a telephone call.
You don't need to be a full-time canvasser. Include a few stops of door-to-door sales on
your daily trips through town.
