Over a period of time, the result of all this fear, guilt, unworthiness,
hurt feelings and anger is discouragement.
Discouragement promotes inaction, and inaction guarantees failure. A life of never living
our dreams.
Giving Up Too Soon
A man went out west and discovered a gold mine.
He worked the mine with pick and shovel for several months, then came to the conclusion
that this was not the right way to go about it. So he covered up the mine after staking
his claim.
He went back to his home in the east where he talked to his friends and neighbors. He
told them about the gold mine explaining to them, if he had mining machinery he and they
would all be make plenty of money. They agreed! They put up the money for the machinery.
The machinery was brought to the start of the mine, and the machinery was started and
just as he expected there was plenty of gold. He started to pay off his debts for the
land and machinery. He was just about ready to start saving money for himself when the
mine ran dry.
Very discouraged he thought there is no sense to stay here any more so he called in a
junk man and sold the machinery. He told the junk man that if he would buy all this
machinery today he would throw in the deed to the mine for free!
This junk man was no fool! He called in a mining engineer The engineer was to examine the
mine and make out his report to the junk man. The junk man told the engineer that if the
mine was worthless he would break up the machinery and sell it for junk. But he wanted to
be sure!
The engineer went down into the mine and made a thorough search of the mine and made out
his report to the junk man. What do you suppose he found?
The report stated that all the junkman had to do was find the secondary vane of gold and
he would find his gold mine if he would dig just three feet deeper. The junkman started
the machinery and sure enough three feet deeper he found the secondary vane of gold. And
the junkman became the millionaire!
Testimonial
I was getting impatient and discouraged while
working my first direct mail campaign. I knew I just should not have started it or got
involved with any stupid direct mail program. I just knew it would be a costly waste of
time.
Then one day I got a telephone call asking for me, and if I were the one sending him all
this direct mail every month. I admitted I was and asked him if he wanted to shoot me or
beat me?
He said "by no means. my name is James Patterson and I'm president of Cobra Roll
Industries. I have been receiving the information you have been sending me and found it
very informative and interesting. I don't know whether I want to do business with you or
not, however I would hope you would have time to visit me so I can learn more about what
you do!"
This account was one of many acquired through a consistent persistent direct mail
program.
